The source for all different deck railing ideas. Here you can learn about all the different options that you're familiar with and probably plenty that you've never seen before. The most common railing for a home is a wood railing made with parts that can be made by just about any carpenter. There's also wrought iron railing which is common on Mediterranean inspired houses. Glass deck balusters and cable railing are popular choices for modern architecture where the palette is mostly concrete and glass.

But on this site, I share deck railing ideas that are far from these run of the mill encounters. I've shared underwater railings and railings on safety tower, from sea to sky. Hopefully, you'll find a picture that will help to be the inspiration in your home's decor!

006This railing idea uses cable railing and branches in alternating sections between pressure treated 6×6 posts. An interesting way to create a stimulating visual effect is to use multiple different kinds of materials.

How about this North Carolina deck railing idea from the mountains of the western part of the state? These are so interesting and unique in this amazing style that is not replicated by other boring and traditional, staid designs. By using natural elements like the branches, the North Carolina idea is one of the most impressive to be shared.

See how the sun casts shadows from the railings just like shining through the trees in the mountain forests of North Carolina. This railing can be installed anywhere the mountain lodge feel is desired and will be perfectly suited to its location.

We love it. This perch is not all that different from a zip-line starting point: high in the trees with a long vista over the jungle. I like this type of cable rail. Wood posts keep it mountain cottage style, and the cable railing keeps the view open.

San Juan Islands has some really great views on the lake front. I really love how this deck has pillars that follow the same contemporary design cues as the house. It makes it look really professional and high quality. This house with a blue roof and white walls is on a lakefront. The roof is nice with no columns and just left overhanging. This contemporary Maine cottage was well designed to show guests the water view beyond. On a site that offers views of the shoreline, islands and open ocean, the water view is a part of every room.

Designed for island living, this fine railing is enhanced with decorative post caps. Two white pieces of wood make up this X design making it look lovely. I may need a rooftop deck at home for the “can’t get away, need a natural tan” days. Who loves the way the cushioned lounge chairs match the railings?

The design of this railing has a nautical feel and allows for a view through to the harbor and its boats. The spacing on this cable railing idea is open, with not too many cables to block the view. This wood deck with cable railings and wood top fits well here. A view of a marina is a great choice for boat lovers having an early-morning coffee before setting sail. The view reminds me of the Balboa Island marina. I love sailboats at sunset. Can’t you just hear the seagulls?

This cable railing idea is perfect for this modern home. The concrete and block shapes is perfect with the industrial look and lines of the cable railing. Landscape lighting is heavily dependent on design and placement with fixtures almost being secondary. If you’re passionate about lighting, the best suggestion is to hire a good landscape designer or architect to plan. The best fixtures would not compensate for poorly placed fixtures.

Located on Commercial Street in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the deck on the sea level is the largest of the three on this beach house. The original roof was replaced, but it still looks the same. The back of the house was extended toward the beach, and new composite decking was added to the extension. The roof overhang on the front and sides of the house was replicated in the new design on the rear of the home.

This deck off the great room was designed for maximum durability and minimum maintenance with a high-wind and saltwater environment in mind. The wire cable rail by Feeney Architectural Products has bolts as end caps to hold the wire. PVC trim is hard wearing and low maintenance.

This could be a photo shoot location for Seaside Casual Furniture which is possibly the highest quality recycled polymer available. That is “Brazilla” from Zuri Decking–a very high quality PVC lumber and a great match for Seaside Furniture. Love the painted white and dark wood contrast! Looks very polished and clean, like a resort. The cable railing is a great idea since they don’t obstruct views. I also like the way the upper deck juts out further than the deck above; it would be great to hang out on rain or shine.
